Love is in the Air! Singles Flight Takes Off from LAX

Love is in the air as 100 single men and women mix and mingle on a flight like no other -- the world's first ever "Matchmaking Flight."

Air New Zealand is flying the lucky American singles from Los Angeles to Auckland, New Zealand, with the hope that each finds a date in-flight or on the other side of the Pacific.

Prior to the flight Tuesday, a pre-party was held for passengers at the departure gate at Los Angeles International Airport.

The party was attended by celebrity guest travelers Jason Mesnick, of ABC's "The Bachelor," and his girlfriend Molly Malaney. It featured speed dating and ice-breaker games, makeovers and a "crew dance" by the Air New Zealand flight attendants and pilots.

"Whether or not it's going to be romance, it will be a fun time anyway," said one traveler.

The cost of the flight was $780 round trip.

And it's not exactly a blind date for the singles. They put up profiles on thematchmakingflight.com before showing up for the flight.
